Practical sizing advice for placing the right piece in the right space.
The right piece of furniture is not merely beautiful - it sits in its space at the right scale. This guide gathers the core sizing rules our team applies in projects, so you can plan a terrace, garden, balcony or pool deck correctly before ordering. The rules are few, but each is distilled from hundreds of real layouts.
In seating groups, comfort lives in the distances between pieces. Allow 35 – 45 cm between sofa and coffee table - close enough to reach your glass, wide enough to pass. Keep facing seats within 250 cm to protect conversation, and plan at least 75 cm for main circulation routes.
For dining, calculate 60 – 65 cm of table edge per person: 120 × 80 cm for four, 160 – 180 × 90 cm for six, 220 × 100 cm for eight, 280 × 100 cm and up for ten or more. Leave 80 – 90 cm around the table for chairs and service. Standard seat height is 45 – 47 cm with tables at 74 – 76 cm; bar sets seat at 65 – 75 cm under 105 – 110 cm tops - worth considering on terraces where a railing blocks the view.
Allow at least 200 × 70 cm per sunlounger, 50 – 60 cm between loungers including a side table, and a minimum 50 cm safety margin from the pool edge. Daybeds need 60 cm of clearance where you want access.
Three practical tips: tape product footprints on the floor at full scale and live with them for a few days; check door, corridor, lift and stair clearances for large pieces; and include the open diameter of any parasol in your plan.
